Our Story

In 1995, two Christian broadcasters came together and agreed to apply for two FM licenses to cover Kenya’s two major cities. Trans World Radio Kenya would apply for a license to cover Nairobi, while FEBA Radio would apply for a license to cover the coastal city of Mombasa. This sounded like a win- win solution for gospel broadcasting.

FEBA radio got the license to broadcast in Mombasa and went on to set up Baraka FM. Unfortunately, TWR did not get the license for Nairobi despite many meetings with senior officials including the International and Regional leadership visiting the then - President Daniel Arap Moi. Successive leaders would follow up on the application but unfortunately to date TWR Kenya has not received a Nairobi frequency.

After many letters of rejection, and with the advice of someone from the ministry of Information, we applied for frequencies in places where we could not be told the usual ‘no frequencies’ response. This was in 2005, 10 years later and after many applications for major towns in between, all met with the same outcome. This time, we got the frequencies but in very remote parts of our Country. By God’s grace we were able to set up the stations in places where the gospel is needed most. Among the arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL) regions of Kenya. We were excited and still are excited about reaching the least reached peoples of Kenya with the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. The stories of impact that keep coming in are a testament that this delay and the frequencies thereafter were part of God’s plan for us.

Yet, two needs remained. The need to reach Nairobi and specifically the urban youth. As we discussed with my management team, the idea of an online radio was mooted. It has been a long way coming and after many false starts, we are ready for take-off. The new look powerline is a vibrant platform offering soul food, encouragement, sermons, music and much more, not just for Kenyan youth, but for youth globally.

As the name suggests, we are leveraging the power of new media to ‘reach the world for Christ through social media so that lasting fruit is produced.’
